
A Neapolitan painter known as Luca fa presto (“Luke who paints quickly"), Luca Giordano was also a fluent and expeditious draftsman. Probably trained by Ribera, he only made six etchings. Despite the rapid pace at which he worked, he produced very small editions of these prints, making early works such as this one extremely rare.
